AI and automation for home service businesses

For HVAC, plumbing, electrical and similar shops. Missed calls and review requests are solved. The hand work at the edges isn't.

Where this comes from

I haven’t worked with a home service business yet. This page comes from reading how small trades shops run their office, and from what’s already solved off the shelf.

Where I wouldn’t start

Most AI pitches to trades shops lead with missed calls, review requests and quote follow-ups. Those are real problems, and they’re already solved. You can buy a tool for each one this afternoon.

Where I would

The edges. The note a tech left that nobody can bill from. The balance that’s 60 days old. The warranty that needed registering last week. That’s the work that still runs on someone remembering.

What I'd automate first

Billing from thin tech notes
A tech writes a few words on the job. The office can't bill from it, so the invoice waits until someone calls the tech back.
What I'd build
The tech talks or types a few lines. A draft invoice with parts and labor comes back for the office to check and send.

Past-due balances
Jobs get finished and invoices go out. The ones that don't get paid sit until someone has time to chase them.
What I'd build
Every open balance tracked by age, with reminders drafted for a person to approve before they go.

Did that job make money?
Lighter field-service tools don't show job costing well. Finding out whether a job made money means pulling numbers from two systems.
What I'd build
Ask which jobs lost money last month in a sentence and get the numbers back from your field-service tool and your books.

Warranties and agreement renewals
Every install needs its warranty registered by a deadline, and maintenance agreements need renewing. Both are easy to miss.
What I'd build
Each install queued for registration with the details filled in, and a list of what's still open or about to lapse.

An AI receptionist. Plenty of them exist, and you may already pay for one.
Review requests and quote follow-ups. Your field-service tool probably does both.
A new field-service platform. I'd rather fix the gaps in the one you have.

Something I've built

I haven't built anything for a home service business. The closest thing I've built is fridge-door, which reads flyers and PDFs and turns them into suggestions a person approves.
