Ask-Your-Data

Ask how the business is doing in a sentence. Get the numbers back.

Who it's for: Teams sitting on SPINS, POS, NetSuite or loyalty data who wait on one person to pull every report.

The problem

The data exists. Getting an answer means waiting on the one person who knows how to pull it.

What I build

  • A scheduled pull from the system that holds the data, by API or export, whether that's SPINS, your POS, NetSuite or a loyalty platform.
  • A semantic layer that defines your terms once (dollars, units, velocity, distribution, share, 4/12/52-week versus a year ago) so every answer uses the same math.
  • The interface your team actually wants, behind your company login: a table they can filter, a question box that turns plain English into a query, or both. Every answer shows the numbers it used and where they came from.

What you have in 30 days

  • A working first version on your real data, scoped to one source and a list of 15 to 25 questions we agree it must answer correctly.
  • Your team getting the answers they used to email someone for.
  • A list of the questions it couldn't answer, and what data would fix that.

Questions

How do I know the answers are right?
Every answer shows the numbers and the query behind them. If something looks off, you can see exactly why.
What's the slow part?
Often data access, not the build. Syndicated data like SPINS comes with licensing terms, and sorting those out can take longer than writing the code.
Do we need a data warehouse first?
No. For most small teams, a scheduled pull into a small database is enough to start.
Do we need the plain-English part?
Not always. If the questions are the same every week, a table your team can filter may be enough. We decide that in the Walkthrough, with the people who ask the questions.

Not sure this is the one?

A 30-minute call sorts that out. If it's worth a closer look, the Walkthrough is the next step.
